Red crank spotted bass

Caught this spot on lake Lanier with a red craw crankbait, 6-8 ft diver. Used my new berkley spinning IM 6 graphite lightning rod with shimano 2500 FD reel spooled with 8 lb berkley trilene sensation copolymer.

I performed a yo yo crank with this bait. It was laced with Fish Sticks craw attractant by KVD.

Water temp was about 50-53, clear, and very cold air temp around 30. Enjoy!

Android Fishing App

New fishing app for Android users. This app received a 4/5 from all users that downloaded and played this game. It's called Russian Fishing and it's a bass fishing app with lots of action involved!

"Description

Light ripples on water, leisurely floating clouds and a beautiful view will take you from the dusty city to the heart of nature.1. Choose a spot for fishing.
2. Cast your fishing rod and...
3. Feel the first bite!
And remember that to haul out a huge sheepfish, you need appropriate gear that you can purchase in the shop after selling your catch."

GREAT tactic for Winter Cold Bass

I have posted things that typically work with Winter cold waters and bass fishing. I have found a new technique that works better than a jig and pig, jig with trailer, jerkbait, worm, or whatever you may think of.

It's called a Tennessee Float and Fly rig!

What you need in your tackle box

A tackle box is a fisherman's best friend. This is the box that keeps all the important lures needed to catch the biggest fish of his or her life. A tackle box needs other things also in order to be prepared for the unexpected while fishing though.

A tackle box should be stocked with the following items:

  1. Fishing Lures of course!
  2. Flashlight for those night time fishing ventures or late evenings getting back
  3. Extra spool of line (mono, braid, or flourocarbon)
  4. Hemostats for removing hooks easily...either from yourself or fish. Do not remove hooks that are embedded deep. This requires professional practice since you do not know if the hook is into an artery, vein, or around tissue.
  5. Pair of pliers with wire cutters
  6. Split ring pliers for removing treble hooks for replacement
  7. FIRST AID KIT....this is the most important thing for unexpected injuries from fish or hooks
    1. Gauze
    2. Bandaids
    3. 2x2s
    4. Hypothermia blanket
    5. Neosporin or bacitracin ointment for antibacterial purposes. If you are allergic to antibacterial ointments, have alcohol wipes available for antiseptic and cleaning
    6. First aid leaflet for all injuries....this can be printed out or available at your local red cross
    7. Gauze tape or applying gauze and dressings to skin for pressure purposes and to keep microbials out so healing can occur
  8. Repel or any other brand bug spray
  9. Fish Sticks or any other brand fish attractant. I say Fish Sticks because they are convenient and easily stored in a tackle box with lures
If going out in heat, take a cooler with water and Gatorade to replenish electrolytes lost from sweating. Alcohol is not a good choice for heat since it causes dehydration.

Other things needed for fishing might include pair of nail clippers for cutting line easily, hat, polarized sunglasses, a knife, and other things you may think you need.

Today's tip

Want a tip for bait performance?

Today's tip comes from personal experience. Since I don't have a pool, I use my bathroom sink or tub for bait performance tests.

I simply drop my rigged baits into the sink or tub in order to find out if I need to adjust the way the hooks are rigged and how the baits will perform in different temps of freshwater.

Winter surroundings

So, it's a cold morning and you're off work but don't want to go fishing.

Well, you don't have to but it would be worth it to just go look at the surroundings.

During the winter season, the corp of engineers drain the lakes and this is where you will begin to do your homework for spring and summer bass catching.

You memorize where important structures are and how deep the water is there or you can measure.

I will observe and say okay there is a lot of brush there or hydrilla in that particular place. Smallmouth and largemouth will hide out around or in these areas when it warms. They will not always be shallow and these are important things to do in the cold months.

When it warms back up and rains, the lake will fill back up and you will not be able to see that structure there anymore but if you do your homework when it's cold and everyone else is sitting at home watching tv, you are sure to catch more bass when it warms up!

I usually try to fish during this time too jus to see if I can catch anything.

Do your homework and observe the winter surroundings.
